Each state regulates the issuance, registration, purchase and sale of securities to its residents pursuant to various statutes, rules and regulations known generally as Blue Sky Laws. Each state has a department, division, commission or agency charged with the regulation of securities within its borders. In addition, securities regulators from each of the 50 states have banded together with regulators from Canada, District of Columbia, Mexico and Puerto Rico, to form the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), whose designated primary purpose is investor protection.
